Lingua Technologies International becomes the First local translation company in Singapore to receive ISO 17100:2015 Certification
Singapore, 12 September 2016 – Lingua Technologies International, one of the pioneers of the translation industry in the region, is proud to announce that it has successfully achieved certification to the International Standard specific to translation service provider, ISO 17100:2015 for its operations in Singapore and Thailand.
With this certification, Lingua Technologies International becomes the FIRST local translation company to achieve this honour.
The ISO 17100:2015 supersedes the European code EN 15038 as the internationally applicable standard for Translation Service Provider (TSPs). It specifies detailed requirements for all aspects of the translation process directly affecting the quality and final delivery of the translation services. This includes the provisions for TSPs, to not only fulfil requirements in terms of the minimum qualification, the availability and management of linguistic resources (translators and editors), but also cover the qualification and competency of project managers handling the projects.
In addition to linguist and project management, the standard also defines quality assurance, the process of communication between client and the service provider as well as the process of handling project-related information and the requirements for its security and confidentiality.
“It is definitely very challenging trying to incorporate the new standard into our existing EN 15038 adherence processes. However, with the help from the ISO executive committee and commitment of everyone in our company, the certification process was a smooth one,” said Ms. Janice Chew, Project Director of Lingua Technologies International. “We are proud of the fact that we are the first local translation company in Singapore to be certified with this new ISO standard specific to the translation industry. This translates to better confidence and assurance in terms of the quality of translation and service level for our clients.”
Preparation for the certification started in early 2016. Ms. Chew, a veteran in the translation industry, spearheaded the ISO executive committee which was formed by senior members of the company to streamline existing processes to be in adherence with the requirements set out in ISO 17100:2015.
